Blog v Wiki

There are many differences between blogs and wikis. One of the most apparent differences is that blogs are usually operated by one person and users can only interact with blogs by commenting. On the other hand wikis are usually created by one person but then can be updated with new information or a user can fix information that may be incorrect. One of other differences with blogs is that one person can have his own opinion and can delete comments that they do not like therefore it have their own agenda as evidenced by the article "Wal-Mart Tastemakers Write Unfiltered Blog" written by Michael Barbaro.

One of the similarities of blogs and wikis are that both of them can have a community to form around them. Many people can edit and add information to wikis and on the other side comments on blogs can refute points and engage with the author and the author can comment back with points of his own.

One of the main ways that blogs can be used for collaboration in many different ways. One of these ways is someone blogging in a certain industry and someone makes a comment about a different way a procedure can be done. So it helps the blogger and then he can get in contact with the commentor to learn about this time saving procedure. Another way for collaboration can be seen in the article "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid" by Michael Wilson. A neighborhood blog found out about a crack house and that lead to a drug raid by local police.

  1. Hi Fred,

I liked your explanation of the differences between blogs and wikis. It is true that blogs can have a biased opinion because feedback can be manipulated, Wiki's are less rigid and I think that is why more people gravitate to this type of media.
